Forgot to post my thoughts on 24 last week, so I'll do a quick two episode update while the most recent one is fresh in my head.
Unfortunately, I have to say that so far this season has too many sub-plots that aren't interesting to me - although, I hope that they somehow find a way to make them interesting soon. For example, this whole thing over civil liberties and the government taking away rights in the name of freedom is being so over-acted. It's an important issue - but I watch 24 for entertainment, not to get some Hollywood producer's opinion on the Patriot Act. Along the same lines, I have no interest in President Palmer's sister (also known as Cuba Gooding Jr's wife in Jerry McGuire), her husband, the bizarre "Mylo" character who no one seems to respect at CTU, or the power struggle with Palmer's advisors.
One story line I did find really cool was how Jack's brother has now been shown to be connected to the terrorists. Last season he was on the show too, and how he fit in or was connected seemed a mystery (unless I'm missing something, it wasn't obvious last year that he was Jack's brother ... correct me if I'm wrong). Next week's episode should be pretty entertaining, as it appears that the terrorists are going to try and use Jack to detonate the nuclear weapons, which, obviously won't happen in the seventh hour of the show, but we'll see how he gets out of this one.
At this point, I have to rate this season a dissapointing B-. I think they're going to need one of those two-hour specials at some point soon to raise their grade.
