Atlantic City ended up pretty good. We didn't get to our hotel until around midnight, which isn't really much of an issue since Atlantic City is open 24 hours (well, the casinos are). I started out playing blackjack, and found myself in a load of trouble in a hurry. My big issue was I kept doubling down on mathematically sound hands (for instance, I had 10 versus dealer showing a 6) and getting screwed.
Without getting into dollar amounts. lets just say 80% of my money was gone within about an hour of sitting down to the table.
One of the things I like best about casinos is the never-ended supply of free alcohol. After I had been playing blackjack for an hour, I had been supplied with several drinks and was feeling pretty outstanding. I went and hung out with a few friends for a while, but then wanted to make one last stand to try and get my money back. And what quicker way to get it back than the mathematically WORST game to play in the casino: roulette!
I don't really know the "strategy" of roulette - it's basically all luck any way you play it. And I did what I usually do, put a black chip on the color black (there is about a 47% chance of a black number coming up). I won the first spin, lost the second spin, and kept going back and forth for a while, but then finally I hit, doubled up my bet, and won again, which got me back to a profit on the evening. Ultimately, I won enough to pay for the trip (hotel, gas, and a few more drinks at the bar around 5am), which is all I ever really hope to come away with.
The drive back kind of sucked, because the GPS navigation on my new phone crapped out on me and got me lost somewhere in New Jersey for about an hour. I wasn't in a particular hurry, but it was time that could have been better spent.
Anyways, Atlantic City was a lot of fun, but the rest of the weekend was pretty uneventful. I kind of wanted to go out in DC last night, but then I remembered that I live 70 miles west of DC, so I thought better of it and stayed local.
I'm trying to find something to do the week of Christmas/New Years. I'll probably go home for Christmas, but would like to do some traveling after that. I'd like to go back to Colorado to see Rob and Al, but looking online, plane tickets are damn expensive that time of year. I'll probably end up working on MindSay, perhaps in an adventurous location such as Brian's house.
