Mardi Gras
For the 5 or 6 of you who care about my whereabouts, the last 4 days were spent in Atlanta, on the road, and in New Orleans. Thursday afternoon the prospects for a Mardi Gras trip looked pretty bleek, but then I was reminded that AirTran does standby flights for students @ $55 one-way, so me and a friend headed up to Baltimore and got a flight. Arrived in Atlanta where I saw all my friends and the next day we drove down to New Orleans, passing through the fine states of Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. The drive was fairly uneventful, though in the middle of a conversation about how great we'd become at averting police, a Mississippi State Trooper pulled us over at about 85 mph. However, he did not ticket us, they were mainly just pulling kids over looking for drugs, alcohol, and periphenilia and since me and my friends are such high-standing citizens, none of that was to be found.
Anyways we didn't get to New Orleans until almost 11pm on Friday night, where our one-star hotel room was situated about 5 miles from Bourboun Street where all the action was. Half of our 8 man crew (yes, 8 men in a one-star hotel room) had arrived a few hours earlier and was already quite intoxicated, so our bunch had to play catch up. We did, and within about a half hour we were in a cab and on our way to Mardi Gras. Because MindSay is yet to introduce its incredible features for managing who can read your blog, I will keep the details that followed G-rated. Basically stayed out until 5 a.m. or so, manuevering up and down Bourbon Street and "negotiating" with various females. Negotiations went well at times. Beverages continued to flow. My dinner wound up coming out the wrong way. Most people should be able to figure that all out =)
Anyways got back to the Econolodge and crashed immideately, but given the room was so crowded, as soon as one person woke up so did everyoen else. So we were out the door before noon and hit up Shoney's for an excellent (well, maybe 1 and a half star) brunch buffet. Bacon, eggs, pancakes, hash browns, ham, chicken, salad plate, fruit plate, mmmm, I get my money's worth at a buffet.
After that half of us went down to Bourbon Street to check out what it is like in the day time and sober, while the others took naps. It was pretty cool, ran into a few people we knew, had some awesome cajun food (jumbalaya for me) and eventually when night rolled around the rest of our crew joined us. The second night was more or less the same deal, though it was a bit more crowded and we were all slightly more sober.
Sunday half of us drove back to Atlanta, and this morning me and my UMD bud grabbed a flight back to Baltimore finally after a 5 hour wait in the airport. Unfortunately I missed my class this afternoon. Anyways tonight I got back into my gym routine, played 3 really good games of basketball and then lifted some weights. Just had myself a protein shake and cooked a late dinner. Now I have to get a bit of work done for my 8 a.m. class. Wow, the shift back from Mardi Gras to reality is rather harsh.
Here are a couple G-rated pics from Mardi Gras for your enjoyment:
